While this is listed as a necklace extender, the chain is so fine that it works only as a replacement safety chain on a piece of fine jewelry. If one needs a 14K gold safety chain this is perfect. As a necklace extender the chain and clasp are so tiny they will not fit a single 14 K gold necklace that I own. I returned this piece. I bought this not really understanding what safety chain is. I wanted a necklace extender and I will use it as such but it is very fine in size and hope it will work. It does fit my chain. For anyone who doesn't understand what a safety chain is....my grandmother wore a watch that had a chain that linked the two ends of the watch in the event the clasp broke. That is a safety chain. This piece I bought is very fragile looking although very pretty...trusting it will work. At least it won't turn colors on my neck as the other extenders did that I bought...which were NOT real gold.
